I’m a native Californian who moved around a lot throughout my childhood and young adulthood - living in other states and countries in my twenties and thirties. My current California home is the most stable home I’ve ever had. Within this space, I can deeply explore the land and the people I’m in a community with. Photography has been a tool of self-reflection and examination since I was a teen, although commercial photography sidelined my personal work while parenting. Because of this, I began a love affair with fiber art while my children were young. Currently, I’m exploring my experience as a mother and our choice to live in a rural environment.

During my time as a wedding and portrait photographer, I had my own clients but also worked with numerous commercial photographers as an assistant or a second shooter. Without regular help, the home/work balance was almost impossible. I felt the need to close the loop on my education as my kids grew older. I graduated with a BFA in photography from California College of the Arts in 2020 after a long delay. Returning to school revitalized a dormant part of my artistic identity and I often revisit the intense and heart-expanding period of parenting in my work. Coming back to the use of film has been a big part of my creative revival and has shown me how important it is for me to have that process as part of my practice.

I’m now enjoying my own balance of commercial and artistic work from my home studio.
